The Case Against Islamism has revealed the vast gulf that exists between Islam, our faith, and Islamism, the political ideology that over the past half century has come to dominate the Islamic world. The arguments presented here, exposing the deep flaws in the historical, theological, philosophical, scientific and political underpinnings of Islamism, provide liberal, progresive Muslims with the means finally to confront and face down the Islamists and to reclaim the moral high ground and the soul of Islam.
Western commentators, politicians and academics, long cowed into submission in the face of Islamist violence and intimidation, can now distinguish between Islam and Islamism, a distinction long obscured by Islamist propaganda, and feel free to join their Muslim colleages in the war against Islamism.
A new path has appeared in the quest for religious freedom that liberal, tolerant, people of all faiths and none can follow : recognition that religious faith is a matter for the individual concience and cannot be imposed.
We reject all political support, coercion and intimidation in favour of all and any religion.
The 12 Principles of Islamic Reform
- There is no one true version of Islam.
- Traditional Islamic history has little or no validity.
- Islam is our faith. Islamism is a political ideology lacking theological, historical,
philosophical or scientific validity, and falls short of the internationally agreed
standards of equality, democracy, justice and human rights. - There can be no compulsion in religion: faith is personal; no-one can control
what’s in your heart. - God will judge us on our decisions, not on those imposed upon us.
- Allah sent the Qur’an as a book of guidance, not of law.
- It’s not the sound of the Qur’an that matters, but its meaning.
- The Sharia is not God’s law, it was compiled from dubious sources
long after the death of the Prophet. - Allah does not punish the innocent.
- Science is the best method ever found of understanding God’s creation; the Qur’an is not a book of science.
- There is no Quranic justification for the promotion of hatred or violence in the
name of Islam - We call on Muslims word-wide to reject Islamism, hatred and violence, and to return to the benign Islam of our forefathers.
